Sam's Music Library Reorganization Project

I have a rather large music library. 7493 tracks, to be exact, and this number is increasing constantly. Now, I’ve done a decent job keeping my library organized, but I’ve definitely faltered in many areas. So I’m going to go through, retag everything, reorganize the folders, etc.

What’s on the to do list:

-Folder Structure:

Nothing complicated, just Artist->Release Type->Release

so like

Graffiti6->EP->Stone In My Heart

-Genre Tags:

My library is sorely lacking genres, so I’ll be fixing that. Foobar2000(the best music program in existence) supports multiple genre tags, which is really neat!

-Release Year Tags:

Self explanatory.

-Misc tags:

Since arbitrary tags can be created and foobar2000 can use these to filter playlists, I may create some custom tagging standards for my library.

Example: An Occasion tag.

So if a song is suitable for a certain occasion, such as a family party, I could create that tag and give it that label. Wonderful!

-Replace all MP3s with flac:

This is something I’ve slowly been working at, but I’ve decided to make a concentrated effort on this.

What’s flac, you say? Flac is a lossless music codec. Does that not help? Well, basically an MP3 file is considered a “lossing” format, meaning that part of the original data is lost forever. With flac, the data is compressed, but none is lost, which means the file will be larger. Now, with higher quality MP3s, the difference between flac and MP3 isn’t discernible to 99% of the human race, but I like to have it for archival purposes.

-Listen to and rate all my music:

I occasionally download albums and don’t listen to them. Rating my music will make it easier to see what I’ve listened to, and it means I can create a playlist filter for highly rated music!

-Misc cleanup:

Remove duplicates, non-music files, etc.

I’m sure I’ll have more to write on the project later!

“First, anyone interested in becoming a delegate goes to the Americans Elect Web site and registers. As part of that process, you will be asked to fill in a questionnaire about your political priorities: education, foreign policy, the economy, etc. This enables Americans Elect to put you in contact with others who share your views so you can discuss them and organize together. Then you will be invited to draft a candidate or support one who has already been drafted and to contribute to the list of questions that anyone running on the Americans Elect platform will have to answer on the site.

Tonight we had many interesting discussions, from the concept of casual videos games to the neuroticization of society.

And we went to the mall to remind ourselves that we hate the mall.

We also had dinner(some Asian noodles, can’t remember the name), desert one(a cinnabon), desert 2(brusters).

Caskey had desert 3 and 4(ice cream with fudge on top)

Fun times were had by all, and this post is slightly out of order because fuck putting thought into what I write here.

I ended up going to sleep because fuck overnighters.

Jumping on the HP bandwagon, I reread a little bit of OOTP the other day. Call me cliched, but at soon as I picked up that book and felt the familiar heaviness of the pages, it reignited this deep magic within me, and suddenly, I felt... home. I was back. Soon this dissapated, and I was left standing in my sister's room. Even now, I regret my long departure from Harry Potter after the completion of the seventh book. I'm happy to be back.
